The scope of our research is aimed at improving animal (including fish) health and welfare, feed and food safety, and creating environment friendly and sustainable production systems.

BactUlcer

Research project

Bacterial ulcer conditions cause major animal welfare and financial problems within Norwegian sea-based salmon farming. In this FHF-funded project led by the Norwegian Veterinary Institute, we will study the bacterial species involved, both from seawater and fish, in order to better understand why only a few, specific strains of these are overrepresented amongst salmon with ulcers.

BIO-Direct

Research project

BIO-Direct is a strategic internal project at the Veterinary institute, funded for 4 years 2019-2022. The project involves more than 20 researchers and technical staff organized into five cross-diciplinary teams: 1. Disease biomarkers, 2. Immune protection, 3. Gene editing, 4. Cell models, and 4. Multiplexed immunoassays.
