GreatView – a view to more than you can see!

A camera based scanner for dead fish lifted up at fish farms w.r.t. classification of possible causes to mortality, and development of a data assist system for early warnings of negative disease or welfare developing.

Everyday, fish die in fish farms. The reasons for fish mortality can be many, however currently the registration of the mortality is done manually and there is no automated solution.

Information about the causes of mortality as well as the conditions of the dead fish is valuable and can represent the welfare of farmed fish in the cage. Therefore CreateView will implement this project - GreatView.

The objectives of the project are to develop a camera-based scanner for dead fish and to combine information that is automatically extracted from the images by «Deep learning» with diagnostics (agens, blood-/tissue parameters), production parameters, environmental records as well as welfare parameters from monitored live fish in the cages into big collection (Big Data). Moreover, to analyse this huge amount of data we take advantage of advanced data processing techniques, e.g. artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning.

In summary, this tool will provide better monitoring service and a basis for the analysis of disease outbreaks and welfare development as an early recognition method (early warning). This also will reduce financial losses, contribute to increased profitability and not least contribute to better welfare of the fish in the cage as well as a more sustainable aquaculture industry.
